How Do All-on-4 Dental Implants Work?

Dental implants act as prosthetic tooth roots, but that does not necessarily mean you need one for each missing tooth. With the All-on-4 method, we strategically place just four implants in your jaw. Two go toward the front, and two are placed in the back at an angle. This utilizes areas of the bone that are naturally strong and thick. Immediately after placement, the implants are able to support a temporary denture. Later, after a healing period, we will replace the temporary denture with a permanent one.

Am I a Candidate for All-on-4 Dental Implants?

You may be a candidate for All-on-4 dental implants if:

You are missing all or most of your teeth throughout one of your dental arches.
You have adequate bone density in your jaw to support the implants, or you are willing to explore options for bone grafting if necessary. (Given the unique strategy used in All-on-4, bone grafting is usually not required.)
You are in fair overall health, so you can heal properly after your surgery.
You are free of gum disease and other oral health conditions that might adversely affect your implants.
You are committed to maintaining excellent oral hygiene to support your implants’ long-term success.

Number of implants. Traditional implant dentures often require between six and eight implant posts per arch, whereas All-on-4 uses only four implants, making it a less invasive procedure overall.
Timeline. The overall treatment timeline with All-on-4 is usually shorter than what you would expect with traditional implants.
Surgical procedures. All-on-4 typically involves just one surgical procedure, whereas traditional implants may require two or more.
In some cases, using more implants via traditional treatment results in a sturdier final prosthetic.
All-on-4 is exclusively for full-arch replacement. Traditional implants can replace any number of lost teeth.
