Academic Authority: Science, Research & Education

The Face Dental Group is a clinical practice grounded in academic medicine. Our lead clinician, Prof. Dr. Wael Att, is one of the most published prosthodontists in the world — with more than 150 peer-reviewed scientific articles, chapter contributions to core prosthodontic textbooks, and active research in digital dentistry, implant biomaterials, and full-arch reconstruction protocols.

This section of our website documents the academic work that informs the clinical standard of care at our Boston practice. Very few implant dentists anywhere in the country have this depth of scientific output, and for patients evaluating implant dentists, the depth of an operator’s published work is among the clearest signals of long-term competence.

Why Academic Authority Matters for Implant Patients

The average general dentist places fewer than twenty implants per year. At the other end of the spectrum, a clinician who is actively researching, teaching, and publishing on implant dentistry encounters every category of case, complication, and emerging technology — often years before it reaches the general profession. When an implant case is complex — full-arch, compromised bone, failing prior implants, aesthetic challenges in the anterior zone — the difference between a routine operator and an academically active specialist is often the difference between a result that lasts five years and one that lasts a lifetime.
